Jane Dippel Preservation Fund
The Route 66 Association of Missouri’s mission is to preserve and promote Route 66 in Missouri. Preservation means safeguarding the motels, restaurants, businesses, and other iconic landmarks that transform this highway from a mere ribbon of concrete into a living piece of history. These landmarks embody the essence of Route 66, drawing people to its roadsides and showcasing how it shaped the communities along its path. Preserving these treasures ensures that future generations can understand and appreciate the unique significance of Route 66 to Missouri and the nation.
One person who deeply understood this mission was Jane Dippel. Joining the Route 66 Association of Missouri in 1991, Jane dedicated her life to the Mother Road. Among her many contributions, her most impactful was the establishment of the Historic Preservation Committee. Through creative fundraising efforts such as meeting raffles, donation drives, and Jane’s unwavering determination, the committee has supported numerous individuals and businesses in maintaining and preserving their piece of Route 66 history in Missouri.
In her honor, the aptly named Jane Dippel Historic Preservation Award continues Jane’s legacy. This award is dedicated to preserving what remains along Route 66 in Missouri. We encourage everyone working to save any part of Route 66 to review the application criteria and apply for this meaningful recognition.
